Encouragement Lighting The Fire of Motivation

By Shawn Doyle

I was going for a brisk walk in my neigborhood park. It is a great winding loop- a half mile walking path that is hilly in several places. I was walking and huffing and puffing my way around the track. A short man with black hair was on the trail too, running in the opposite direction. So every loop we passed one another. I didnt know him. The first time he passed me he yelled out " Keep it up!" At first I thought he was talking to someone else but no- he said it to me! Hmm. "I dont know this man from Adam" I said to myself. When we passed for the second time I got a positive "thumbs up" sign. He was smiling at me. This was getting weird. Third lap he clapped for me. So a person I didnt know was coaching me to keep going. The very last lap I worked up my energy and ran that lap and my goal was now to please my new mentor.

Stop what you are doing and think about this for one moment. In your organization who should be the one who provides the most encouragement and motivation? You. Consider the power encouragement can have. So before you stop reading this, here is a compelling reason : results. So lets put the PMA stuff aside for a minute and understand that as a leader your job is to get results. That cant be through you it has to be through your people. So as the leader you have to give them encouragement, high energy and make them feel appreciated. They want their work to be recognized. The issue is that most leaders dont do this at all. So your job is to be the CEO- cheif encouragement officer.

So here are some ideas for providing encouragement that are quick and effective. They may seem small but they can be very effective in helping get better results.

Speak to all people- Many times I have seen a "big wig" walk into a room at a big meeting with hundreds of employees, pass by everyone, ignoring them and greeting other " big wigs " on the far side of the room. How silly is that? They were making the small people feel even smaller. This created resentment and people felt slighted. Who would blame them? What a huge error. When you are touring or visiting an office or even in your own offices do you take the time to say "hello" to people? Maybe you are pressed for time. Do you at least give people non verbal positive signals? They need the small gestures of acknowledgement.

Take note of their efforts- Lower level employees often tell me they never ever get any credit for their work. So when employees work really hard do something "over and above" the call of duty, make sure to notice and say something about it. When people do wonderful work let them know! Its important to publically and privately (one on one) acknowledge people when they do great work. I was once a Vice President at a big company that had 80,000 employees. At times when I saw something I felt was great, I would find out who did it and I would write them a short handwritten note of appreciation, thanking them for doing such a wonderful job. When I traveled I would go in someones office (or cube) and well look at that- I woulde see the card I wrote pinned up on their wall. This taught me an important life lesson- that everyone wants to be appreciated.

Bees and honey- There is an old saying in the south "you attract bees with honey not vinegar." Its not a comment about bees its a comment about humans. It is easy to be critical really easy. Most people screw up alot. But the problem is these people already beat up on themselves on a regular basis. Why do we need to keep adding on to that? It is the big morale killer. Its probably just being human but its not helping at all. As a leadership expert I encourage leaders to try and find a balance between the honey and the vinegar. In many cases there is no honey at all. So some balance- please!.

Be present with presents- Do you think people love gifts? You bet. Does it have more impact when it is least expected? Even more. Look for little ways to show people appreciation. Bring in bagels in the morning, cater a lunch into the office, give someone a bonus day off, give them a gift card for coffee. These rewards are small but appreciated. One other key point- let them know that it is a reward. Some people get rewards and they dont know it is a reward or what it is for. Sit that person down, and say to them "Look, I know how hard you have been working and I have noticed it. This is a reward for all that you have done.Thank you." They will feel so good about their work, they will tell their family about it when they get home.

The secret to great leadership is really not a secret at all. You as a leader need to encourage people, help them feel as if their work matters because it does. We all matter.

So go ahead -get busy! - 30535

Ericksonian Hypnosis Method

By Christopher Cohen

Neuro Linguistic Programming and Ericksonian Hypnosis are the primary backbones behind the power of conversational hypnosis. It is encouraging to see two schools of thought merging at their pinnacle. This phenomena exhibits that there is certainly legitimacy and validity behind the power of conversational hypnosis. It has been rumored that even Barack Obama has dabbled in a bit of conversational hypnosis. His ability to captivate audiences is unsurpassed by his predecessor. The subtle indirect usage of suggestion is what Neuro Linguistic Programming is all about.

The power of conversational hypnosis will give you the ability to influence people and your conversations with them in order to help improve you and your life. The basis of NLP and Ericksonian Hypnosis is through indirect suggestion that massages the unconscious mind in hopes that you will be able to resolve inner conflict that resides within your subconscious thus altering your behavior in what we commonly all refer to as Reality.

You can use the power of conversational hypnosis to transform your life and conversations. By using NLP and relaxation you are able to bring the other person into a state of persuasion. During this relaxed state, you are able to tamp in the unconscious and use indirect suggestion to control the tempo of the discussion. From there, you can enter the experiences that are stored in the deep subconscious to alter or adapt them.

By bringing the person into a state of deep relaxation, you are prepping their mind for embedded indirect suggestions that you can use to draw out certain aspects of the person based on their collective subconscious mind. The cool thing about implementing the power of conversational hypnosis is that it can be performed anywhere and at anytime. Neuro Linguistic Programming is the science behind embedded indirect suggestion. By learning the simple triggers of NLP, you will find yourself immersed in a world full of opportunity and relationships with people you never would have otherwise met.

One very simple method for bringing a person into a state of deep relaxation is to ask them about something dear to them. For example, if Mothers Day happens to be a week away, you can ask them about their mother and what they plan on doing for Mothers Day. By inquiring about someone personal and dear to them you bring the person to be hypnotized one step closer to deep relaxation. Of course, if the person is not in good terms with their mother and they start to get riled up over your inquiry, simply shift the focus to something more universal.

Once in that relaxed state, the power of conversational hypnosis comes into play. Through indirect suggestion or NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) the person to be hypnotized will be able to make the behavioral modifications that they want in life. NLP can be explained through a very plain and simple example.

Imagine you are carrying a tray of glasses filled to the brim with iced tea. On your way from the kitchen to the patio, you are focused and concentrating on maintaining your balance so as not to spill your drinks. All of the sudden someone yells out, "Dont spill that!" Now, what may seem a nice enough gesture to ensure that you dont spill the ice tea has actually put into motion conditions that will increase your likelihood of spilling the tray of drinks. The reason for this is that the subconscious mind cannot discern between negations and affirmations. Simply speaking, your unconscious mind processes "Spill that!" and ignores the negation "Dont"

Here is another example. Sit comfortably or lie down, whichever is more comfortable for you. Now, do NOT focus on your breath for 15 seconds. Now, take a 15 second break and come back when youre done. Im gonna take a wild guess here and say that you thought about your breath for the whole 15 seconds. This is a basic example of how the unconscious mind cannot discern what a negation is.

The power of conversational hypnosis works in the same way. Indirect suggestion brings about real change in real people. The methods of conversational hypnosis are proven and have helped thousands improve their lives. As time goes on you will improve on your skills to harness the true power of conversational hypnosis. - 30535

Productivity is Critical

By Cory James

Ive always been big on the idea of making the most of my time. While I genuinely do enjoy my work, I value my free time even more. After all, I work so hard in order to enjoy the lifestyle that I desire.

I really do my best to stick to my work while Im working. Youd be amazed at how much more youll get done if youre focused the entire time, as it makes a world of difference.

Im going to share a few tips with you that Ive developed as far as strategies go. These all help me stay completely attuned to my work, as once you develop these habits theyll be a lot easier to keep in place.

First of all, make sure that you get an ample amount of sleep. I know that it may be somewhat out of your control, but getting the right amount of rest at night can be the sole difference between a productive day and a waste of a day for me.

My mind simply isnt the same if I havent slept for at least 6 1/2 hours the night before.

In addition to sleep, the amount of exercise that you get is critical too. I go to the gym every day and I find that my best hours are the few hours that follow my workouts because my mind is the most clear at the time.

In addition to that, itll give you more energy to endure through a days worth of hard work. Lastly, it helps you to sleep better at night, which in turn will lead to more productive days.

I would also recommend listening to some music in the background while you work. Find the right volume and make it commercial free, as youre really just using it for background noise, which in turn keeps you focused. This works wonders for me and really gets me into the zone. - 30535

Job Stress and Its Role in Employee Productivity

By Patrick Drew

A lot of people get stressed even before one reaches the workplace. Aside from the difficulties of doing the work, you also have to deal with co-workers who may or may not agree or approve of the way you do your work. There would also be some people you were romantically involved with before who would be working with you, and this would be so uncomfortable and stressful as well with past and present work relationships, gossips, and power struggle conflicts.

You may consider writing these stressful events and analyze. Some of these events at work may be similar to events at home causing the same feelings of lowliness. Maybe by looking at these past stresses you could figure out a way to stop feeling the same way in the future. We may be lucky enough to rethink this through and finally find a solution - by having a different mindset.

Look at what causes other people to be stressed and what they do about it. They may be in the same situation you were. They may feel as depressed, helpless, angry, and frustrated. Now you would see that it is a pattern. The mind is patterned to feel stressed, blame others for being stressed out. This has been going on around for a long time, has gone deeper and in circles. Maybe it is time to change our way of thinking and feelings.

Nowadays, a lot of stress goes on in the workplace. Small stuff piles up and becomes big enough for you to say, "Thats it. I have reached my limit." When that happens, do not turn to medications, there are ways to handle these job stresses.

So, is it possible to be stress-free at work? No. We need to know how to deal with the stress and not be stressed by its presence. We have stress management tips which might help.

Identify the stressor: Work? Family? Your partner? Once you have identified the cause of the stress or the stressor, then you could move on to thinking about resolution.

Divide the weight: Divide and distribute the weight. You are not the only one who can carry on such task. Other people at work and your boss may be willing to share the load.

Look from another perspective: It is okay not to make it right the first time. As it is, it is the first and not the end. Take it easy on your work and yourself when stressed out with a mistake.

We will always be dealing with stress in our lives especially in our work. Job stress management is essential to keep us active and enthusiastic amidst a stressful world. - 30535
